As part of The Healthier You: National Diabetes Prevention Programme, we are working with local people who are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes to empower them to take charge of their health by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The risk of type 2 diabetes can be reduced significantly by reducing your weight, increasing the amount of physical activity that you do and by improving your diet.
If your GP thinks that you could benefit from taking part in the Healthier You Programme they will either discuss the Programme with you at your next appointment or contact you by letter and suggest you take part in the Programme.
People who take part in the Programme will receive tailored, personalised support to reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes including education on healthy eating and lifestyle, help to lose weight and physical exercise programmes, all of which together have been proven to reduce the risk of developing the disease.
